The Travel Committee planned trips to Ottawa, Montreal, and Mount Tremblant. The freshmen
and sophomore classes co-sponsored the annual Spring Thing through the CUB
.

. To make practicing experts available for discussions and
consultations with students, the School of Management introduced the Manager of the Month
program in September. Richard Davis, plant manager of Corning Glass Works at Canton, was
the first manager chosen to visit campus.
MBA.
Dean Ross Goble announced the establishment of the Master of Business Administration
degree program in March. Students could earn either an MS or an MBA. Its standards were
established to conform to the requirements of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of
Business, its accrediting agency.
Women's Hockey on TV.
A ninety-second film clip by CBS News was carried across the
nation on December 18 featuring the Clarkson Women's Hockey Team. Alumni from across the
country reported seeing this feature film story narrated by Bill Fellings of WCAX-TV,
Burlington. CBS made it available throughout the United States and Canada.
Unfortunately, the team's record that season was 2-5-0, defeating only Ithaca and
Potsdam State. Their other opponents included Cornell, Colgate, and St. Lawrence.
Science Center.
A highlight of the 1976 Commencement was the dedication of the Science
Center to Mrs. Cora Clarkson and her son Dr. Bayard Clarkson in recognition of their
generosity, friendship, and service to the College.
Cora, the wife of Robert Livingston Clarkson, and mother of Bayard, became the first
honorary Trustee in the College's history. Bayard, a doctor and cancer researcher at Sloan-
Kettering Cancer Institute in New York City, had been a Trustee since 1967. These two
generous people were the major contributors toward the purchase of the platform tennis courts
erected near Moore House and the canoes in the river. In 1975, they donated $1 million to the
College.
Art Straub Died.
Arthur Straub, professor of civil engineering, died on May 26. He had joined
the Clarkson faculty in 1957 as an associate professor and had been promoted in 1962.
Educated at Bucknell University and at Rutgers, Art finished his education at Cornell with a
PhD in 1951. He taught at Rutgers from 1946-48 after working two years at Carrier
Corporation. Following his PhD, Art spent six years as an instructor in highway engineering at
the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and as a research engineer with the Virginia Council
of Highway Investigation.
New Faculty.
Joining the faculty in the fall of 1976 among others were Jerry Gravander and
Faye Serio in Liberal Studies, Haley Shen in Mathematics, and Ron Chorba in Management.
Biology BS Degree.
Starting in 1974 as a program leading to a Bachelor of Professional
Studies degree for the first 25 students to enroll in it, Biology continued to attract majors to
Clarkson. By spring 1976, 55 students had declared Biology as their majors, leading to the
conclusion that it should become a Bachelor of Science degree program. Its success stemmed in
large part from the existence at Clarkson of many high-quality courses in chemistry, physics,
