Ford, Madame Marie Curie, Edsel Ford, and from Berlin, Albert Einstein.
Karma Fraternity.
For their own reasons, leaders of the two classes of 1930 and 1931 had
chosen not to join any of the existing fraternities on campus, but decided at a social meeting at
the Ansel Bailey home on the Potsdam-Canton Road on November 20, 1929, to form their own.
They chose the name Karma to become the sixth fraternity on campus. It was incorporated
under the laws of the State of New York in 1937.
Its first residence was at 11 Pierrepont Avenue, the current home of SUCP Agonian
Sorority. Later it moved to 72 Elm Street and then to 20 Pleasant Street, and during World War
II it moved to 12 Pleasant, but returned to 20 Pleasant when members returned from the war
and bought the house. It became Pi Kappa Phi in 1957; it currently is Delta Sigma Phi, and is in
charge of the hockey arena bell, rung at hockey games and Commencement exercises. The six
fraternities active in campus affairs were O Pi O, Sigma Delta, Theta Pi, Chi Tau Sigma,
Lambda Iota, and Karma.
