Election Poll
. A campus-wide survey taken in October, just 10 days before the election,
showed the student body strongly in favor of electing Landon as the next President of the
United States:
Landon
199
Roosevelt
130
Lemke 5
Thomas
4
Browder
3
About 90 percent of the students cast their ballots in the short time the polls were open,
which showed a strong interest taken by the voters; this gratified the poll-takers. However, the
appearance of the Socialist and Communist representatives startled them. Because the territories
from which Clarkson draws its student body mainly were Republican strongholds, the
Democratic supporters were favorably impressed by the strong showing of their candidate.
