Tuesday was spent at United Shoe Machinery Company and General Electric Company
Works viewing large company operations, inspecting intricate machinery, and ending with sore
feet. Wednesday's tour included Hood Rubber Company where the group followed the
manufacture of shoes and rubbers from the raw material as received from South America to the
finished product. Then to Bethlehem Shipbuilding and the Edison Electric Company and its
high-pressure installation. Thursday, they visited a Ford assembly plant. Friday centered on the
meeting of the New England Conference of ASME, which included a talk by Bill Roger on the
St. Lawrence Seaway Project. All in all, the men learned first-hand what they would be doing
upon graduation.
