price. Then they surveyed the faculty, staff, retirees, and parents of students before making a
final recommendation about customer's preferences on price and type of cover.
Thus, this project not only recommended ways to provide the greater Clarkson
community with a copy of its history, but also it gave a group of marketing majors some
valuable and practical experience.
Loan Clearinghouse.
Clarkson began participating in the National Student Loan
Clearinghouse. Its main objective is to collect information concerning the enrollment statuses of
students, and passing that information to the banks which loan money to those students. The
banks then process this information that tells them which students are full time and therefore
need their loan repayments deferred. This is expected to speed up the registration process
considerably.
Who's Who.
Four Clarkson faculty and former faculty were selected for inclusion in two
different
Who's Who
publications.
Professor Emeritus Myron Mochel and Professor Bradford Broughton were named to
the 1995 edition of
Who's Who in the World
. Mochel taught mechanical engineering at
Clarkson from 1949 until his retirement in 1971, and published two college textbooks. After his
retirement, he and his wife, Eunice, traveled to every US state capital, and all the populated
continents of the world.
Broughton, professor of technical communications, taught liberal studies and technical
communications at Clarkson from 1955 until being appointed professor emeritus on his
retirement in May 1995.
Professors David M. Craig and Mark J. Cornett were selected for the third edition of
Who's Who Among America's Teachers
. Craig, an associate professor of liberal studies, is a
PhD graduate of Notre Dame, and served as senior lecturer at the University of Nis in
Yugoslavia in 1981-82. He was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award in 1993 and the
CUSA Outstanding Teacher Award in 1991.
Cornett '79 taught in the management department before being named as associate dean
of the Graduate School and director of Graduate Programs at Clarkson. He was selected as
Outstanding Advisor in 1991 and as CUSA Outstanding Teacher in 1992.
Shope: Record-breaker.
In a losing game 61-78 against Hartwick in Oneonta on January 20,
Justin Shope became Clarkson's all-time basketball scorer when he scored eight points to bring
his total to 1,372 points in 85 games. The 5'9" senior basketball guard from Massena added 25
more points in the following game against RPI in Troy, and ended his Clarkson career with a
grand total of 1,590 points.
In his freshman year at Clarkson, Shope captured the 1992 ECAC Rookie of the Year
Award, the Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Rookie of the Year, and was named an EAA All-
Star. That year he had a 14.5 points-per-game average and 70 three-point shots made. In his
sophomore year he amassed 383 points for a point-per-game average of 15.3. As a junior, he set
a new record of three-pointers at 80, raising his average points per game to 18.9; again he was
named an EAA All-Star. (See p. 651) During his last year he continued to perform well. In the
second game of that season against Johnson State in the Plattsburgh Classic tournament, Shope
sank nine three-pointers en route to a 45-point performance. He finished the season with 387
points for a game average of 15.5, including a total of 302 three-pointers.
