Tournament in Madison Square Garden, and won a hard-fought victory when Roger Purdie
scored the winning goal in a sudden-death overtime period to defeat St. Lawrence 6-5.
Later, in ECAC playoffs, Clarkson defeated Providence and Colby to earn the chance to
play St. Lawrence in the semifinals. Unfortunately, they lost to the Larries in the championship
game 5-2. They went on to play in the NCAA finals in Utica where they defeated Michigan 5-4,
but lost the championship to Michigan Tech 7-1.
Under Jack Hantz, the wrestling team emerged undefeated with a record of 10-0. The
wrestlers demonstrated great pride in achieving such a record after only three years on campus
as a varsity sport. Sophomore Ed Fay paced the squad with his undefeated efforts; Joe Trimboli,
Ron Parrot, and Mike Rose also turned in outstanding performances.
On the baseball diamond, the Knights became one of the top-hitting collegiate clubs in
the state with eight players averaging above .300. Reserve infielder Irv Crane led the squad
with a .471, and by delivering a key single in the second St. Lawrence game during
Commencement weekend, he led the team to a winning season.
